Bradford: Open Source Circular Economy days

Bradford Open Source Circular Economy day 11/06/2016

Bradford district, the towns on the rivers Aire, Wharfe and Worth, is built on manufacturing and still has manufacturing and engineering in its economic mix.  As an urban area with a growing population we constantly create demand for natural resources and continually produce a stream of  “waste” that we expect to disappear and not bother us again.   Our individual and collective challenge is to create economically and environmentally sustainable ways of meeting our daily needs for water, food, shelter, education, employment, recreation and art.

We believe our success depends on the whole community openly finding and sharing solutions that create circular economies that treat “waste” as a raw material for the next production cycle.

“Where there’s muck, there’s brass”

We think that cities that successfully engage the whole of the community in the challenge of finding answers will derive benefit in terms of designing and creating high quality environments in which to live and work.

Bradford’s first Open Source Circular Economy day is an opportunity to come and share your stories, create solution orientated networks, share understanding of open source and circular economy concepts and good practice.

9:00 – 10:30 Don’t Skip Breakfast!

Join us at Saltaire Canteen for a talk and toast about all things circular and open sourced!  The Canteen is one of the growing number of Real Junk Food cafes dedicated to ending food waste and poverty and is such is brilliant of example of how thinking differently.  By combining a Pay As You Feel model with using good food that would otherwise be dumped RJF are demonstrating that different values can operate successfully on the high street and solve problems.  RJF is not a franchise but an emergent network or self managing cafes based around the core principles and open sourced through their Starter Pack.

OSCE Days Bradford are hosting a drop in breakfast (PAYF) for anyone who wants to find out more and develop our own Bradford district based Open Sourced Circular Economy solutions.

13:00 – 15:00 Rubbish Ideas

Wur Bradford is a collective,  inclusive arts and social space open to the public and to anyone who wants to connect, explore and imagine how we can make Bradford a better place. Wur Bradford is the idea venue to  bring along and “workshop” our ideas on how to find new uses for “rubbish” and change the way we value resources.

Activities will include a look at the inspirational  Precious Plastics project; mapping Bradford districts existing circular economies and developing our own ideas.
