This weekend is the March for Science in DC and we'd like to attend! We're postponing this workshop and rescheduling for Sunday June 4th, same time and place!
experience inside the hive - - - - 10am-noon
Interested in keeping bees? Ever wanted to get into a hive and see what it's like? Got questions before you commit to buying equipment? Have any apprehensions before registering for Bee School? This Skill Share Workshop is for you!
Join Marty Hanks, of Just Bee Apiary for a morning of exploring the magic of honeybees. This will be a self-directed event - so bring your questions and quandaries, concerns and conundrums, excitement and experience, and of course... your curiosity!
Please wear clothing for being outside in the the sun! Hats and water bottles are a must. You might find it useful to bring a notepad and pencil for taking notes.
About Just Bee Apiary: Just Bee Apiary is a Chemical Free operation with a focus on raising, managing and teaching how to keep honeybees in the most natural way possible. We do not stress our bees by moving them around the state for pollination. Knowing that honeybees know way more about "beekeeping" than we humans do I study them, their behavior and history to learn from them the best way to interact with them.
candle making - - - - noon-2pm
Join the Abundance Staff in making rolled taper candles and dipped candles! We'll provide the wax and the wicking - you bring your curiosity and any experience you've picked up along the way.
The idea behind this skill share is to source out local knowledge on subjects that we're all eager to learn. Alisa has done rolled candles before for Brigid's Day. Hannah made pillar candles long ago with her mother. What knowledge can you bring to the table? All skill levels are welcome! We're beginners....
Put on some jams. Make some tea. Enjoy the companionship of crafting with your neighbors. We'll turn the office into a little studio, melt the wax, and craft into the afternoon.
Dress to get a little dirty - we suggest wearing an apron.... the cuter the better. Please bring a small jar to turn the last of the wax into a little votive candle. If you've got any favorite essential oils or herbs to add to your beeswax, we encourage you to bring them!
commune over mead - - - - afterwards and optional
After the Skill Share, we'd like to swing by Starrlight Meadery to enjoy a tasting of Chatham County's finest meads! Ben and Becky source their honey from local North Carolina beekeepers and present another wonderful way to use the abundance of bees. Let's raise a glass together to the noble honeybee!
This is optional and isn't included in the price of the event (registration fees will go into purchasing the materials and donating to Just Bee Apiary for Marty's expertise).
