Sharing Sad, Bad, and Difficult Information

Sharing difficult information with patients and those close to them can be one of the most challenging situations for any health professional.

However, learning to handle such sensitive interactions can support staff as well as patients and carers.

The sessions are open to all staff

This communication skills session will

  • Support staff with breaking bad news by sharing a model
  • Support staff in initiating end of life conversations with patients and/ or those close to them
  • Include debating the benefits of agreeing ceilings of treatment and goal setting within the wider context of advance/anticipatory care planning
  • Facilitate reflective practice within a safe learning environment
